Mormon Transhumanism
Mormon Transhumanism is the syncretization of Mormonism and Transhumanism. A religion of the Judeo-Christian tradition, Mormonism is an immersive discipleship of Jesus Christ for human exaltation. And Transhumanism is a predominantly secular movement that advocates the ethical use of technology for human enhancement.

I Interviewed GPT-3 About Mormon Transhumanism
If you’re tuned in to news about AI research and machine learning, you’ve surely heard about GPT-3. It’s a natural language model that uses deep learning to produce human-like text. The model is based on a neural network that optimized for 175 billion parameters. That was much more complex than ... -
Mormon Transhumanism Trusts in Christ
A recent academic paper by Roba Megersa of Jimma University mentions my work on Mormon Transhumanism. The aim of the mention is to contrast my theology with that of persons who the author esteems to be “fundamentalists” and “bioconservatives.” There’s a clear contrast, for sure. But the author takes the ... -
A Vision for Mormon Transhumanism
I envision the role of Mormon Transhumanism in context of an analogy. Two thousand five hundred years ago, humanity was evolving into a new way of thinking. It was expressed in part by transition away from polytheism. Zarathustra’s teachings had spread throughout most of the civilized world. And the Persian ... -
How a Mormon Kid Recognized that He's a Transhumanist
Implicitly, I’ve been a Transhumanist since childhood. My Mormon parents taught me, from before my earliest memories, that we are all children of God with potential to be God. And not just any kind of god. Not the kind that would raise itself above others in hubris. But rather the ... -
What Is Mormon Transhumanism?
In April 2015, the journal of Theology and Science published my paper on “What Is Mormon Transhumanism?” Access to the version of record requires a fee. However, I am now making the accepted manuscript available for free. Theology and Science journal editor, Ted Peters, and I met at the Religion ... -

Exploring the Mormon Mandate to Transhumanism
A friend recently shared with me some questions about Mormon Transhumanism. The questions arose in response to a recording of my presentation at the 2013 Conference of the Mormon Transhumanist Association. In that presentation, I comment on the purpose of the Association and explain why I believe Mormonism mandates Transhumanism. ... -
What is a Mormon Transhumanist?
At the 2014 Conference of the Mormon Transhumanist Association, I started a conversation about what it means to be a Mormon Transhumanist. As the movement has grown, we’ve experienced some tension between persons who, brought together by the association, might not otherwise interact constructively at all. For example, some Mormon ... -
Christ and the Gospel in Mormon Transhumanism
Kyle Gregg recently attended the Mormon Transhumanist Association conference and wrote an excellent blog post about the conference and the association, entitled “A Mormon Critique of the Mormon Transhumanism Conference”. Kyle says he’s not a Mormon Transhumanist. But he’s been a Mormon his whole life and has “a firm and ... -
Mormonism Mandates Transhumanism
If you’re a Mormon, you should be a Transhumanist. That’s my contention. I’ve suggested before that “Mormon Transhumanist” is not redundant. But “Transhumanist Mormon” is redundant because Mormonism mandates Transhumanism. In other words, you can be a Transhumanist without being a Mormon. But you can’t be a Mormon without being ... -
A Strenuous Mood for Transhumanism on Mormon Matters
This week, I was a guest on the Mormon Matters podcast, hosted by my friend Dan Wotherspoon. I joined Dan, Chris Bradford, and Tyson Jacobsen in a discussion about Mormonism and Transhumanism. We recorded the podcast in two parts. Here are links: Mormonism and Transhumanism on Mormon Matters Podcast (Part ... -
Is "Mormon Transhumanist" Redundant?
Is Mormonism a form of Transhumanism? Michael Anissimov recently posted seven definitions of “Transhumanism” on his blog. Let’s see how Mormonism fares according to each definition. 1) “Transhumanism is a philosophy that humanity can, and should, strive to higher levels, both physically, mentally and socially. It encourages research into such ...
